PICOTERA

Picotera is a 2 player co-op Vive VR game experience. In this, one player is a friendly giant while the other player is a small person. Both the players have to communicate with each other and work together to progress through each step in the game. This project was a part of "Building Virtual World" course in Entertainment Technology Center. The team consisted of 5 members in which my role was programmer and producer.

As a programmer, I worked on networking aspects of the game and integrating the work of all the programmers. Being new to networking, it was hard at first, to network two different platforms (HTC Vive and Leap Motion) together. After learning and trying different ways to network during the first week, I decided to consider both platforms as the same one and this helped me a lot to complete the project in 3 weeks. As a producer, my main tasks was to assign tasks, to improve communication between my team members and to help them in achieving the goal.

One of the challenge we faced while developing "Picotera" was to adjust the play area (physical space) in such a way that the virtual experience of both the players will not be affected. At first, we kept a single play area for both the players. After playtesting, we concluded that it is best to separate the play area of the players. This allowed the players to be more confident while playing as they did not have to worry about colliding into each other.

This project was chosen by the jury to be showcased in BVW Festival, 2018.
